I became a professional photographer overnight

If you’re a poser like me then you love any camera, any mirror and any glass window. My love for photography came about when I was about 13 years old, I begged my mum for a Polaroid camera so I could take ‘Vintage’ photographs of my friends– did I get one? Obviously not. My love for Polaroid cameras didn’t cease until I purchases a Nikon Coolpix digital camera many years later. It was nowhere as cool as the Polaroid that I longed for, but it was cheaper and it was pink.

So there I was with my digital camera, mainly taking snaps of my Dog and I thought, wow I could be a photographer.

I knew that whatever I did for a career I would want to combine my love for photography and my passion for travel. I would want to capture idyllic moments in time like a Lion lunging to catch its prey, or a first kiss of a teenager’s life in a busy city centre… and there it was, my plan.

I have been travelling all over the world with my camera (I decided to upgrade from my pink Nikon camera before my trip to a Canon Powershot). I started my journey a few years ago, and I am in no hurry to stop anytime soon.  I have photographed Elephants in Africa, Captured the waves at Niagara Falls, Screamed my name at the Grand Canyon and taken in breath-taking landscapes in Morocco.

My time in Morocco was spent on a photography tour. The reason I chose a tour is because I didn’t really know what to expect, all the other places I had been I had heard plenty about- but Morocco, not so much. This was the best decision I had ever made. I photographed local residents in the villages and landscapes of snow-capped mountains. The best part of going taking part in a photography tour, is that you are given an insight to hidden gems, diamonds in the rough, any preconceptions that I previously had about Morocco was taken away, to see the different types of tours available through Morocco visit ImagesInTheSun.com. For me, the tour opened up my eyes to Architecture and Community spirit – showing me that I had come a long way from photographing my Dog in my garden.

I took my experience I had gained in Morocco and I took it all over the world. From my experience, I found the tour quite a challenge, but along the way I picked up tips and tricks, eventually making me a more dynamic photographer.

From this point, I am heading home for a few months (travelling is expensive you know!), after which I will be heading to Brazil, Mexico, Delhi and Tokyo – not in that exact order, but they are certainly next on my list. I would never say I was the best photographer around, but when you have some of the most beautiful sights in the world around you, it would be sacrilege not to take a picture.
